Hybrid working is here to stay. Here's how your team can adapt to it.

Over the past year, hybrid working has propelled to the forefront – but its rise was always inevitable.

New research shows that nine out of 10 organizations will now use a hybrid model in their workplace, as C-suite executives report that hybrid working has improved their organization's productivity, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and diversity and inclusion.

In other words: hybrid working is here to stay.

What if your company doesn't adapt to hybrid working?

⚠️ Decreased employee engagement
⚠️ Low quality of work
⚠️ Decreased productivity
⚠️ Higher employee churn
⚠️ Increased risk of burnout
⚠️ Reduced experimentation and innovation

After talking to leaders from global front-running companies, we found out what stands in their way from successfully changing their companies from within.

So, how can leaders and organizations adapt to hybrid working? Here are our tips on how to get started:

  • Have a plan! 🗒 Most organizations don't have a detailed vision for their hybrid work. While there is no single way to implement hybrid working, some key steps include: agreeing on an overall strategic position on hybrid working, defining hybrid working in your specific organizational context, engaging managers throughout the organization, and developing a communication plan.
  • Empower your managers to lead differently.💪 Different ways of working require different ways of managing. For hybrid working, soft skills are more important than ever. This includes skills like listening, empathy, and coaching.
  • Rethink roles and responsibilities. 🥁 As organizations (re)design their hybrid working model, matching your workforce with the right priorities could help boost productivity.

Recently, we led a two-day workshop for engineering consultancy firm Royal HaskoningDHV, where we trained eight employees to facilitate hybrid working design sprints.
